URI Europe representative participate in International scientific conference on theme: "500th Anniversary of the Reformation in Germany" in Plovdiv

In the two days in which the conference tооk place (20-21 October 2017), ten lecturers from higher education institutions in Plovdiv, Sofia, and Germany examined important moments in the historical and philosophical dimensions of the half a millennium anniversary of the Reformation in Germany and the inter-religious and intercultural aspects in West and East.

URI congratulates the Baha’i Community on the occasion of the Twin Holy Days

On October 21 and 22, 2017, the Baha’i community globally celebrated the “Twin Holy Days” associated with the birthdays of the two Founders of their religion.

URI Europe congratulated the Baha’i community on this occasion and expressed its appreciation for the community’s dedicated and long-term involvement in interfaith peace work and for promoting unity in diversity, respect and peaceful relationships.

URI Europe chair for interfaith encounters in Bonn

On October 20 – 24, 2017, URI Europe’s new chairman, Dr. Duncan Wielzen visited Bonn for various interfaith encounters and activities.

He met up with members of the URI Europe support team for strategy planning; encountered members of various URI Cooperation Circles, i.e. URI Germany e.V., the DMLBonn e.V. and the Intercultural Circle Bonn; and participated in the celebrations for the Baha’i Twin Holy Days – the birthdays of the faith’s founders.

Duncan is a Catholic parish worker from Monster near The Hague and has been elected as URI Europe chairman in May this year.

'The state of nature is a state of war' said Thomas Hobbes. Every warrior has a convincing and distinct reason why the other should be destroyed: he kills to 'live'. History teaches us that if we do not succeed in conquering every 'warfare', struggle will be our permanent condition.

We rise against the old motive that characterises biological life: to kill in order to live. During the previous centuries humankind made conscious choices, not only because our insight and knowledge increased, but also because we took charge of our responsibility along the way. We exchanged the old principles and tried to find a morally justified way of dealing. While thinking about our behaviour we acquired a morality that allows us to live life in such a way that there is a life and a future for everyone.

I visited my first URI held event, after having spent months getting to know URI it fruitions through Angelina Vladikova (BRIDGES CC and URI E Liaison Officer). Furthermore, it was the first gathering I was visiting that brought together so many different cultures, faiths and indigenous traditions. I was not quite sure what to expect for the next few days ahead of me.
